Buying tips

When selecting a hadith book, consider your level of knowledge, purpose (e.g., basic understanding vs. in-depth study), and whether you need commentary (sharh). Beginners may start with Riyad as-Salihin or Forty Hadith of Nawawi, while advanced students often study the Six Major Collections (Kutub al-Sittah). For authenticity, Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim are top choices. English translations and commentaries vary in quality; look for reputable publishers like Dar-us-Salam or International Islamic Publishing House. Ensure the edition you choose includes proper text and translation with references.
